About You:
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Data Engineer to lead our newly-formed AI and Data Squad in Kuala Lumpur. You will be responsible for working closely with our Product teams to create AI and data-driven solutions for business customers across the APAC region. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering, with strong expertise in data modeling, analytics, and reporting. As the Team Lead, you will manage a team of five data professionals while remaining deeply involved in the technical aspects of data engineering and product delivery. This role is ideal for a dynamic individual passionate about building scalable, efficient, and impactful AI enabled data solutions in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Team Leadership:
• Lead and mentor a team of 5 data engineers and analysts.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation within the team.
• Define and prioritize team goals, aligning them with organizational objectives.
2. Hands-on Data Engineering:
• Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines to process and transform large datasets.
• Develop and maintain efficient data models to support AI use cases, advanced analytics and reporting.
• Optimize ETL processes for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Design and Implement scalable and efficient data architectures to support analytics and AI-driven solutions.
• Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of data systems to meet customer requirements.
3. Data Modeling and Architecture:
• Architect and implement data solutions, ensuring data quality, governance, and security.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design data models tailored to business needs.
• Evaluate and implement best practices for data storage and retrieval, leveraging modern technologies.
4. Analytics and Reporting:
• Partner with product and data analysts to deliver actionable insights from complex datasets
• Enable self-service reporting and dashboarding capabilities for business stakeholders.
• Drive the adoption of advanced analytics tools and methodologies across the team.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration:
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and opportunities for innovation in their respective product areas
• Act as a bridge between business users and technical teams to ensure alignment on data strategies.
6. Continuous Improvement:
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in AI, big data, and analytics. This will include being closely connected to our Evo/Data team as they advance our AI and data capabilities
• Continuously evaluate and enhance existing systems, processes, and tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Expertise in designing and implementing data pipelines, data warehouses, and ETL processes.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or other programming languages commonly used in data engineering.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their data services.
• Strong knowledge of data modeling (e.g., dimensional modeling, normalization).
• Familiarity with modern data tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, dbt, or similar frameworks.
• Proven track record of delivering analytics and reporting solutions using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
• Deep understanding of data governance, security, and best practices.
• Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with AI/ML workflows or integrating data solutions with AI platforms.
• Knowledge of real-time data streaming technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices for data engineering, including CI/CD pipelines.
Education:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
