At Access, you can develop a fantastic career! We've asked some of our team to share their development stories. Today, we hear from Hannah Simons, Financial Accountant in our central Finance team...
How Long have you been at Access?

I have been with Access for 7 wonderful years!

What role did you start in?

I started as an Accounts Assistant.

What was your goal when you first joined?

To expand my accountancy knowledge, build my experience, and obtain a chartered qualification whilst working within an accounts team for a Company who value and support their employees.

Tell us about your career journey...

I achieved my AAT qualification in 2014 and progressed to a Management Accountant role in 2015. In June 2018, I was delighted to have passed my final ACCA exam! Following that, another opportunity came up in the department to move to a Financial Accountants role which is a position I had always aspired to have and I am now managing the Group’s audit and preparing our statutory books and records.

How has Access supported you with your development?

When I joined in 2013, Access knew what I wanted to achieve from both a qualification and job development perspective. With the guidance from my mentor through both training and quarterly check-ins, Access have really supported my professional development, enabling me to step up and be in the role I am today.

Additionally, the employee academies which Access hosts for all staff to attend, is an invaluable workshop which provides a great insight into our personal motives and values. I have been able to apply the content to my job role and to myself personally.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work in support?

The best advice I can give is always ask questions and find out what is available to you both within your department and across the Group. There are plenty of opportunities available to progress your career which is not just limited to Finance!!
